…and then some

Game Review: Clive Barker’s Jericho

Here’s a video game review for the game Jericho. I’ve played through this game and I must say it is pretty disappointing. The atmosphere is amazing, in my opinion, and the graphics were smooth and liquid, but the overall gameplay starts to get pretty redundant, and as the video mentions, the dialogue is pretty lame.

Also, it’s not scary at all. It’s gruesome and pretty intense in some scenes, but as a game that’s trying to freak out an audience, it just fails.

I’ll also add that the ending just sucks. It’s not a very short game, and the story is deep enough that by the time you get to the end, you’re ready for some kind of rewarding cutscene or conclusion to kinda pay you back for all of the suffering you’ve just endured getting through the game. Nonetheless, this story ends abruptly and without anything even remotely satisfying. Upon defeating the final boss in a large cave, your team dives into a pool of water and swims away. That’s it. That’s the ending. No more scenes. No more story. Not even scrolling text that tells you what happens next. It just ends there. Cuts to credits, and game over.

In addition to the lack of rewarding substance, this game also insults itself in another area: the availability of cheats (or rather, lack thereof). Now, I know, why cheat? That’s not the point. Here’s the point. This is the first game I have seen in a very, very long time that makes you PAY for cheats. No, I don’t mean unlock them by completing various tasks throughout the game. I mean pay. Money. From the main menu you can access a “Cheats” page. On that page you are shown a list of cheats, but they are all locked. How do you unlock them? You have to enter special codes. How do you get the codes? Well, that same screen also provides you with a phone number and a “serial number”. I never called, but I guess you call the phone number and provide the serial number (which of course is specific to that particular copy of the game) and then you are provided with the codes for unlocking the cheats, which cost money. It’s all retarded.
