…and then some

Pineapple Gummy Bear

My parents took a trip to Maui recently.  My mother brought back some pineapple gummy bears.  Pretty cool!  Anything that’s made from Hawaiian pineapples has got to be great!

Well, let’s take a look at the package here…  This is the list of ingredients:

Glucose syrup, sugar, gelatine, sorbitol, pectin, malic acid, food flavor, citrate sodium,
food colors, tartrazine quinoline, sunset yellow FCF Red #40.

Hmmmm… no pineapple?  Well, it’s disappointing but I can’t say it’s much of a shock…  Oh!  What’s this?  Says on the front of the package:
“Packed in Hawaii. Product of China”

Ok, so it’s not even Hawaiian anyway.  So China makes gummy bears with a fake pineapple flavor then ships them to Hawaii to be packed and labeled to make tourists think they’re getting something special.

  1. Right there with you, Man. I wrote a blog about it a couple of years back.
