Recently Chris bought Sonic Generations on Steam. I thought it looked pretty cool and wanted to play it so he gifted me a copy as well. After all, it was on sale for a really great price at the time. I think it was Cyber Monday.
The game is great. From what I can tell it seems to be among the better of the post Sonic Adventure titles, although I can’t say I’ve played them all. It just seems a lot of people are saying it. All that said, though, I have played SG and it is a great game, but there is fail involved, as suggested in this blog’s title.
Aside from the occasional wall-clipping glitch, I haven’t really had any major issues with the single player. Online mode is where the trouble starts. Technically, this is also single player, so I’m not really sure why I used that term. I should have said “story mode”. Anyway, Online Mode offers some ranking game play in which you play levels, usually as fast as possible, and can then compare your best times to the best times of others. One mode is called “30 second trial”, and it gives you 30 seconds to play a level and get as far as you can. At the end of the 30 seconds, a goalpost with your picture is placed in the level and your friends that play this level in this mode will have the challenge of getting farther than that.
Well, as much as I love this idea, it isn’t working for me. The reason it isn’t working is because the game isn’t saving my scores. At least, not 99% of the time. I play the levels but no matter what I do, when it’s all said and done and I come back to the level select and stats screen later, my scores and times are not there. It’s quite frustrating and disappointing.
I’ve currently got a support ticket in with Sega about this and I’m really hoping they’ll be able to solve the issue for me. In the meantime, I can still enjoy the story mode since my progress is all saved when I play that. I just can’t compete with Chris for best times and scores. At least, not officially.
I actually slept in until about 11am today. For some people that may not be any big deal, but for me it’s nearly unheard of.
I didn’t sleep well at all, though, so there’s that. I woke up quite frequently, either for a trip to the bathroom or just because my body didn’t feel like giving me rest.
This might interfere with today’s plans slightly. I made plans to go visit my friend Lisa K today. I don’t get to go see her very often. This time my wife is going with me so we’ll all be able to hang out for a bit. I would have liked Chris to come with us but he seemed to want to stay home when we invited him. I’ll see if I can persuade him with a cheesecake.
Well, I suppose I’d better go get ready for the day.
