Phone Woes III

I sorta planned to plug my phone in to charge while I slept, but I decided to wait.  I let it charge to about 80% and tried to give the transfer another go.

Fortunately, the “SD Card is damaged” warning was gone, and I was actually able to access the SD card from my PC normally without booting to recovery mode.  This means that I can let the transfer take place and the phone will maintain a steady charge.  We’re on the right path.

I think I’ll go to bed now, though.  I’m getting sleepy.

On a quick side note, I’m going to start tracking my weight each day.  I’ve got an app on my phone that makes it easy to keep track.  I’m not gonna say how much I weigh now, but I will say that when I weighed myself several weeks ago, I was the heaviest I’ve ever been, and now I am 8 pounds less than that.  HOWEVER, since I just started keeping track today (well, yesterday technically), I’m not gonna count those 8 pounds.

So, while the files were being copied back to the SD card, I went to go eat and watch a movie.  After the movie, I was planning on getting ready for bed.  I returned to the computer, expecting to find the transfer finished, or at least close to it.  Instead, I noticed it had stopped prematurely.  Why? Hmmmm… ah, well it seems my phone turned off during the process.  Yeah.  Battery died.

So, even though it’s plugged into the computer to do the transfer, this does not allow it to hold a charge.  Now I have to start the transfer all over, except now I have to plug my phone into an actual electrical outlet, wait for it to charge to 100%, and then start all over.

Oh, and to add to this, when I did plug it in and got it to boot up, it still said the SD card was damaged, even though I had formatted it.

I am not happy about this right now.

OH WAIT!  I left something out!  When I came back and found that the phone had turned off, I thought I’d try the card reader again… but the USB ports on the hub weren’t working.  Long story short, NO USB port on my computer was working for some reason.  My mouse and keyboard wouldn’t even work because they’re wireless with a USB receiver.  I had to do a hard reset.  Very, very annoying.

Oh, and then when I booted back into Windows, my wallpaper was messed up again, and my theme wasn’t loading properly… sheesh…

Phone Woes

So my sister texted me to tell me about this game I should try for Droid.  I thought I’d try it so I connected my phone to my PC via USB so I could put the game on it that way.  After copying the file, I disconnected the cable and something went wrong.  Something happened that has not happened to me before.

I saw a new icon in the notification bar of my Droid.  When I investigated, I found it said “SD card is damaged.  You may need to reformat.”  This was not good news.

I looked for solutions online, and most people were saying to transfer the contents of the card to the computer for backup and then reformat the card.  Well, I couldn’t seem to do that.  When I connect the phone to the PC via USB and try to turn on USB storage to access the card, it doesn’t work.  I tried removing the card and using a card reader, but the computer never saw it.  None of this was okay.

I booted the phone into recovery mode to see if there was anything there I could do.  I noticed an option called “Mount USB Mass Storage”.  I chose that, and immediately the files all popped up on my PC.  Without delay, I quickly used Unstoppable Copier to back up all the contents of the SD card to my computer.  I then reformatted the card, and I am now putting the contents back onto the card.

Copying the files back on seems to be taking much, much longer.  Might take a couple of hours.  Guess I could go watch a movie or something.  Just can’t use my phone until it’s all done.

I was supposed to call James.  It will have to wait, I guess :(
