Playing Games

Today I got my Xbox 360 controller wireless receiver for PC.  Now I can use any wireless Xbox 360 controller with my PC.  This is great.  The controller I’ve been using is absolute garbage.

I’ve been playing some more Sonic Generations with a good controller now, and it really is more fun.  Plus the game started saving my data, which is great, too.  I’ve started to record some of my gameplay, and I’ve been considering starting a dedicated YouTube channel to upload those videos.  I’m not sure if I will.  Do you think I should?

Here’s one of my first videos:

I saw a video online of someone getting a score of 1220.2 or something like that.  I haven’t seen anybody do any better than my 1220.7 so if you can find a video of someone doing better (without any cheating), then I’d love to see it.

YouTube’s Flaws

Ahhhh, Youtube.

Well first of all I hate the new homepage.  They’ve taken a nicely customizable and arrangeable modular system and replaced it with a single messed up list of random crap… and they have the audacity to call it an “easy to scan list”.  What’s wrong with how it was?  Was it too complicated for some users to deal with?  Fine.  Give THEM the option of a new home page.  Mine was fine the way it was.  They’ve removed all customization now.  Stupid.

Now what about the “Recommended” videos?  I think it should be called “Random videos we want you to watch”.   The Recommended videos are supposed to based off of videos you’ve liked, favorited, or watched.  First of all, basing recommendations off of videos you’ve simply watched is really stupid.  Often you don’t know if you’re going to enjoy a video until you’ve started watching it.  Many times I’ve started watching a video and thought “Man, this is stupid”.  Well TOO LATE, SUCKER!  Youtube is now going to recommend you watch more videos like that one!

Of course, the recommendations usually have absolutely NOTHING to do with the videos they are based on.  I’m not sure how their system works, but it just doesn’t work.  Let’s see… apparently Youtube thinks I’d be interested in a Justin Bieber music video because I watched a Call of Duty Black Ops gameplay video.  Yeah.  It really recommended that.  Or how about this one:  Youtube recommends a video about a pregnant robot that teaches students because I favorited a video about a giant centipede fighting a snake.  I suppose I can see the similarities.  Well, no.  Not really.  By the way, it really did suggest that.

This isn’t to say that Youtube sucks in every department.  Alongside these horrible flaws they’ve actually done a few things right.  Yes.  They have.

For example, they’ve essentially removed the video length limit for people who have an account that’s in good standing.  No more 15 minute limit.  That’s a very good thing.  Another thing they did for the better is change how the deal with videos that contain commercial audio tracks.  Y’know, like a popular song.  In the past, they simply removed the audio track from the video.  It essentially ruined the video.  It would have been better to simply remove the entire video.  Well, now rather than ripping out the audio they simply tag the video page with a link to the artist.  Perfectly acceptable, if you ask me.

Before I Go To Bed

…I figure I’ll post a blog.  Got to see matt finally.  YAY!  Miss my best friend so much.  He’s actually here now, as he often just crashes on our couch when he comes to visit late in the evenings.

Tomorrow we have a minimum day, then I’m off on Wednesday.  Totally stoked about that.  Yes, I said “stoked”.  I’ll try to make some funny videos during my day off.

Speaking of funny videos, I uploaded a video to YouTube that I found… one I made a very long time ago.  I was lip syncing to a song.  Normally it would be very embarassing because I am such a dork in the vid, but I uploaded it anyway.  YouTube, however, disabled the audio because of its stupid copyright detection crap.  Why are copyright laws so lame?

Well, I’m off to bed.  I’m up later than I ought to be anyway.

Moths and More

Moths.  There seem to be a lot of them around here lately… and by “here” i mean… wherever.  There were 5 of them in the bathroom at work… at least, 5 I could see.

So I discovered this game called Audiosurf.  It’s really fun.  It’s a music-driven game that would go in the same category as Dance Dance  Revolution.  The biggest difference is that this one is adaptive and you can use any audio track you have on your computer.  The game analyzes the music and builds your level accordingly.  Very cool.  I’ve uploaded videos of my Audiosurf gameplay to YouTube.

I didn’t post a video log yesterday because I took the day off so that I could rest my voice.  If I could go a while without talking then it would allow my throat to heal.  I’m still coughing a little bit, but not nearly as much, and I think it helped to stay home.  Additionally, I’m starting to think I don’t need to do a video log.  It just seems silly for some reason.  At least… seems silly to make it so “official”, like “this is my official video log entry”.  I think from here on out I’ll just upload what I want to upload and not worry about categorizing it like that.

Tonight is the Entrance at church.  I’m excited.  I don’t know what the theme is yet… but whatever.

Okay I am done.  More to say but… oh well.

Bored

I wonder how many blog posts across the world are titled “bored”.

Yesterday we had some car troubles… had to get another new battery… this time for Lisa’s car.

Man I’m so bored today.

I uploaded a silly little video to my YouTube yesterday and then the first comment was someone telling me it was the most pointless thing they’ve ever seen.  Needless to say I was offended and just deleted the video.

I’m feeling a bit extra melancholy today.  Today is my appointment with the doctor… supposed to go talk to him about depression and such… to see if I can get some medicine.  Over the past week, though, I’ve felt much better… but.. whatever.

I’m tired today.  Not so much sleepy-tired, but just… well, I don’t want to be at work.  I don’t think it would be so bad if I was actually DOING some kind of work.  There’s nothing engaging for me to do.  I just sit here at my computer.

Hey if you haven’t seen our new The Fish Reel channel on YouTube, you should check it out.  Only one video now but we’ll begin to produce some interesting material.  http://www.youtube.com/user/TheFishReel

I’m a little disappointed that YouTube has no support contact.  The only ‘support’ is the user forum, and that has been little help because it relies heavily on other users answering the questions.  I’ve already asked the same question twice with no response.  I want to contact a YouTube staff member.

No, I’m VERY disappointed.

I’m thinking of doing a “misheard lyrics” video.  Look it up if you don’t know what that is.  I started one a while back but never finished.  It was pretty funny, though.

I want to go home.

Well hey at least I’m not coughing as much today.  A little here and there but not much.

Well now I’m bored with this blog…

Outward

Well it’s Tuesday morning and I’m sitting at work. I brought my camcorder with me, and even though I can’t be using it all day, when I get a break or something I’ll be recording something. There’s not much of interest to record or talk about here at work but I’m mostly using this as practice. That is practicing techniques for cutting/editing the video later, and maybe play with some effects.

I’m not new to video editing at all, though. I’ve done some work with Adobe Premiere and I’ve even made a music video with an old friend. You can see some of this on my YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/vertigoelectric). I’m kinda taking the whole thing as if I’m new at it, though… like starting fresh. Hard to explain. Some of the newer vids I’m posting make it seem a bit like I’ve never done this before… and I’m okay with that… I guess.

My friend Mike and I are going to start a new YouTube channel called The Fish Reel, and it’s going to be mostly for our church, but will have a lot more general material on there, too, but all Christian stuff. I believe we can make a lot of entertaining and informative material without sin involved :) More on that channel later, though.

Just Talkin’ – Video

Megaman in SMB and Contra!

This is a cool little video…

Nintendo Spoof Video

Anyone who knows me knows I’m a big fan of video games… especially some of the older video games like Nintendo.  This video I found on YouTube is awesome.
